If you've seen a six-foot Pistol Pete in a local office or retail outlet, he's not one of OSU's "live" mascots but this one is actively helping the Oklahoma WONDERtorium (OWL) raise awareness and generate revenue for the museum's programs for children.

Almost doomed as a throw-away, the large board cutout was "saved" by Denise Talley, Americorps VISTA member assisting OWL with volunteer recruitment... and good ideas! Denise came up with a creative way to pass Pete around town, building enthusiasm for OSU sporting events and, at the same time, building interest in the museum and its programs. Pete packs a special badge with the museum's logo and a pocket on his chaps that houses informational brochures. Amy Tidland and Shayna Paden helped Denise formulate the "passing game plan" —

• $200 donation — Pete can be reserved (intercepted for a specific game or date),
• $25 donation — Pete can be sent away (passed),
• $50 donation — Pete can be passed to another player of your choice, and,
• for a $100 donation, Pete can be passed with no (punt) return (i.e., he won't come back to you). The passer also receives two free Oklahoma WONDERtorium t-shirts.
• And, finally, Pete needs to "be in the game" — if he stays at any location more than 5 days, a $25 donation penalty will be assessed.

He can be housed indoors or outdoors for football - basketball - soccer games, wrestling matches... the list goes on... why, even as a Thanksgiving outdoor decoration.

When Pete needs to move, Denise will round up the men of FarmHouse Fraternity to deliver him to the next location. All donations given for Pass the Pete are tax-deductable, and all proceeds go directly to the Oklahoma WONDERtorium in support of our programs.
